Basic Recipes

Doctored Cake Mix Recipe (also for cupcakes):

1 box Duncan Hines cake mix

1 small box instant pudding mix

1 cup oil

1/2 cup water

4 eggs

8 oz. sour cream

Beat all ingredients at medium speed for 2-4 minutes.

*You can use any flavor combinations that you would like.  Chocolate with chocolate, yellow with vanilla, strawberry with cheesecake pudding, the list goes on.

Doctored Decorator Icing Recipe:

2 lbs. powdered sugar

2 cups vegetable shortening

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon butter flavoring

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 can store bought icing

Mix first 5 ingredients at medium speed for 5-7 minutes, until creamy.  Stir in can of icing and mix well (using spoon, not mixer).

*Adding the store bought icing to the standard decorator icing still gives you the ease of smoothing, perfecting and working with the icing, but giving it a better flavor than the decorator icing by itself.

**For the standard decorator icing, omit the can of store bought icing.

Fluffy Cupcake Icing Recipe:

2 lbs powdered sugar

1 cup vegetable shortening

1 stick butter, softened

2 teaspoons vanilla

1/2 cup water

1 can Duncan Hines cream cheese icing

Cream butter and shortening on medium speed for 4 minutes.  Add all of remaining ingredients, including canned icing.  Beat on medium speed for 5-7 minutes.

*Adding the canned icing to the other ingredients during the mixing process is what gives it the fluffy nature…and cream cheese icing is amazing on a lot of different flavored cupcakes.
