Tis the season to eat lots of goodies! Here are some rice krispie treats that are colored and shaped like Christmas Trees to get in the holiday spirit. While making the rice krispie treats, add green food coloring to the melted mixture, before adding the rice krispies. Make sure to butter your hands REALLY well when shaping these guys, otherwise your hands will turn into rice krispies!
Take colored M&Ms and attach with icing. Make sure to press the candies into the treats, because they’ll still fall off somewhat easily. I used buttercream icing as an added adhesive.
Rice Krispie Treats Recipe:
3 tablespoons butter
1 bag mini marshmallows
1 tablespoon peanut butter
5 cups Rice Krispies
green food coloring (as needed, depending on how deep you want the color to be)
Melt better in large pot over low-medium heat. As soon as the butter is melted, add the marshmallows, stirring constantly until melted. Once this mixture is melted, remove from heat. Add peanut butter and stir just until melted. Next, add the rice krispies, stirring continuously. Form into desired shapes, and place on wax or parchment paper to set. If you’re not shaping the treats, press into buttered 9×13 inch baking dish to set, then cut into squares. Try to do the process somewhat quickly, since the mixture doesn’t take long to set. Also, don’t cook the melted mixture too long to prevent scalding. Personally, I prefer this recipe over any of the other recipes that I’ve seen…the small amount of peanut butter adds a little sweetness, and using slightly less rice krispies keeps the treats from getting too dry. Store in airtight container.
did you use food colouring ?
I did! I stirred the food coloring in with the butter and marshmallows as they were melting, then added the rice krispies. 🙂
I would be cautious serving these – my daughter has a peanut allergy and typically, rice krispies are a safe food since they generally don’t contain peanuts! The small amount of peanut butter would be enough to cause a reaction in someone.. be sure your guests know they contain peanut butter as most people assume they are nut free!
Thank you for the tip…I always let people know when something I bake has an ingredient in them that are a common food allergy…especially peanut butter! 😉
